Very nice — came to my house to look at some coins and gave me a great price.

Local History

Riverside, Avondale, and Springfield are Jacksonville’s three great in-town historic districts, and all three trace back to the same event: the Great Fire of 1901, which burned 146 city blocks of downtown Jacksonville in a single day and left thousands of families needing somewhere new to live. Riverside and Avondale, already growing along the St. Johns River and the streetcar line, absorbed much of that displaced population; Springfield, platted north of downtown back in 1871, saw its own building boom as families who’d lost everything downtown put down new roots nearby.

More than a century later, the result is one of the largest and most architecturally varied collections of century-old homes in the Southeast — Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Prairie School, and bungalow-style houses, many by Jacksonville’s own Henry John Klutho, who built his own home in Springfield. Riverside and Avondale together hold more than 2,000 historically significant structures; Springfield’s National Register district alone counts over 1,700.

For Families & Estates in Riverside, Avondale & Springfield

A neighborhood this old changes hands more than most — homes get inherited, renovated, and passed down, sometimes all within the same decade — and every one of those moments is a chance for something valuable to turn up in an attic, a closet, or a box nobody’s opened since the last owner.

Between Klutho-era Prairie and Craftsman houses and turn-of-the-century Victorians, I regularly find things here that don’t turn up as often in newer parts of Jacksonville — architectural salvage from house guts and renovations (stained glass, hardware, mantels), advertising memorabilia and signs from the old Springfield and Riverside commercial strips, vintage furniture and decorative arts, maps and prints, militaria, and of course coins and currency that have sat in a drawer since the house was built.

I offer a free, in-hand appraisal before anything gets sold, donated, renovated over, or thrown in a dumpster.

For Buyers & Investors

Riverside and Avondale in particular have a strong professional and business-owner presence, and I work with buyers here who’d rather hold physical gold, silver, and platinum than watch it on a screen — sold by the tube and monster box, locally and in person, no shipping.
